TIASAMALE

Objective: To integrate people living with HIV or AIDS (PLWHA) into their communities via community-and-skill-building campaigns

DIN Malawi employs the following methods to better integrate PLWHA into their communities:

1. Community awareness campaigns increase understanding of AIDS and HIV to reduce the stigma associated with those diseases
2. Home visits and community consultations: consistent interaction between community members and PLWHA to improve well-being
3. Provision of farm inputs: PLWH will be provided with 2 support group 1 hectare organic farms and are taught how to farm to improve nutrition and job stability
4. Female tailor training: women with HIV are trained as tailors to increase income, job stability, and nutrition
5. Procurement of bicycles: bicycles given to PLWHA to ensure easy access to government and clinics and to earn supplemental income as a "bike taxi"
6. Pass-on livestock program: PLWHA support groups rear pigs, goats, and chickens to empower HIV and AIDS affected households with livestock for economic, nutritional, and social benefits
